Abstract

Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) advocates for the direct utilization of spline-based geometric representations for performing spline-based numerical simulations. Over the last decade and a half, this philosophy has been applied to diverse applications with great success, and has yielded theoretical developments that cement the status of smooth splines as excellent tools for approximation. However, a fundamental problem that still needs to be addressed is the formulation of adaptive and unstructured splines for performing (a) analysis-aware design of complex geometries, and/or (b) design-aware numerical simulations. This talk will present an overview of recent advances in the construction, application and theory of unstructured and adaptive splines.
